SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Formosa Plastics Corp (FPC) is running its 500,000 tonne/year plant in Mailiao at around 70% since restarting it earlier this week, a company source said on Wednesday.
The facility was shut on 12 September for scheduled maintenance.
However, the producer cannot ramp up the operation rate to 100% as its downstream 800,000 tonne/year vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) unit located in the same vicinity is still undergoing a turnaround which will last until early October, the source added.
The producer may continue to run the PVC plant at a reduced rate in view of the prevailing muted demand and bearish market sentiment, according to the source.
PVC prices were last assessed by ICIS at $990-1,000/tonne (€723-730/tonne) CFR (cost & freight) CMP (China Main Port) on 23 September.
