HOUSTON (ICIS)--Firefighters have contained about 80% of a blaze at a chemical blender in Texas, and authorities will monitor the site overnight and likely throughout tomorrow, a county spokeswoman said on Monday.
The fire at the Magnablend chemical blender plant in Waxahachie, Texas, started at 11:00 hours local time (16:00 GMT) and erupted into a massive plume of smoke that could be seen for miles.
The plant is about 30 miles (48km) south of Dallas.
Ellis County spokeswoman Diana Buckley said fire crews will be stationed at the plant site overnight and through most of Tuesday.
“They’re letting it burn itself out at this point,” Buckley said.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials took tests of the air because of the plant fire and determined there were no threats to public health.
No injuries were reported from the fire.
Representatives from Magnablend, which provides, custom chemical blending, manufacturing and packaging, were unable to be reached for comment.
