LONDON (ICIS)--Sulphur prices in India have firmed on a new purchase by fertilizer manufacturer Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore (FACT) under its 28 September tender, trader sources said on Tuesday.
FACT has made an award to trader Transfert at $242/tonne (€184/tonne) CFR (cost and freight) under the purchase tender, according to a sulphur trader.
The price is up by nearly $3/tonne on FACT’s last purchase under its 17 August tender, and also above recent Indian spot business, which concluded in the high $230s/tonne CFR.
The producer tendered for 25,000 tonnes of sulphur for early October arrival at Cochin.
Demand for sulphur as a raw material in India has been strong, supported by a healthy phosphate fertilizers market, the sugar season that lasts until November and increasing output from the chemical sector.
Sulphur demand is expected to remain healthy in October, the trader added.
