NEW YORK CITY (ICIS)--US-based Dow Chemical has started negotiations with Occidental Chemical (OxyChem) to form a joint venture that will produce commercial quantities a new, environment-friendly chlorocarbon, Dow said on Tuesday.
The chlorocarbon, called HCC-1230xa, is a primary building block for refrigerants that will initially be used in automobile air conditioning systems, Dow said at its Investor Day in New York City.
No timeline was given for the joint venture.
The chlorocarbon has been approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and meets European Union regulatory requirements for automobile air conditioning systems.
