Iran’s BIPC switches production to HDPE injection on technical issue

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Iran’s Bandar Imam Petrochemical Co (BIPC) switched the production at its 120,000 tonne/year high density polyethylene (HDPE) plant at Bandar Imam to injection output in early October, a source close to the company said on Tuesday.

BIPC has switched to producing injection grade HDPE because the company is facing a technical problem in producing blow moulding grade material, the source said.

The producer is running the unit at close to full tilt, the source added.

BIPC usually produces blow moulding grade HDPE at the plant for the domestic market, the source said.

However, the persistent technical issue at the unit led the company to switch to producing injection grade material with an index 5 melt flow, according to the source.

BIPC is running its 100,000 tonne/year low density polyethylene (LDPE) unit at the same site, which produces film grade LDPE, at close to 100% capacity, the source said.

News of the strike by petrochemical workers at the Bandar Imam complex has not affected the operating rates at the plants, the source added.
