China’s Wuhai Zhonglian to start up calcium carbide plant this year

SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China’s Wuhai Zhonglian Chemical Co Ltd plans to start up its 800,000 tonne/year calcium carbide plant by the end of 2011, a company source said on Wednesday.

“We began the construction in 2010, and the plant is expected to start up by the end of December this year,” said the source.

The 800,000 tonne/year plant is the first phase of the calcium carbide project with a total capacity of 2.4m tonnes/year. Two more 800,000 tonnes/year plants will be built later, the source added.

Meanwhile, the company will also start up its 800,000 tonne/year lime plant at the same site by the end of 2011, the source said.

Wuhai Zhonglian Chemical, located in Inner Mongolia of north China, is a subsidiary of East Hope Group.
