SINGAPORE (ICIS)--PetroChina is planning to conduct trial runs at its 3m tonne/year liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Dalian in Liaoning province in December, a company source said on Thursday.

“Construction is close to an end,” the source said.

The terminal has two 160,000 cubic metres (cbm) LNG tanks and the company has a plan to double its capacity to 6m tonne/year in the second phase of construction, according to the source

Dalian LNG terminal is set to receive long-term cargoes from Qatar or Australia.

“The LNG purchasing agreement between PetroChina and Qatar signed in 2008 is to be effective from 2012,” said a source with PetroChina.

“Therefore Dalian LNG terminal is set to start official operation from 2012,” he added.

Dalian LNG terminal is the second LNG terminals belonging to PetroChina.

The company started trial run at its 3.5m tonne/year terminal at Rudong in Jiangsu province from May 2011.
