Exports increased by 17.1% year on year to $169.7bn, while imports grew by 20.9% to $155.2bn, China Customs said.
However, exports and imports decreased by 2.1% and 0.2% respectively from August to September, according to the data.
In the first nine months of the year, total trade increased by 24.6% year on year to $2,677.4bn, with exports rising by 22.7% to $1,392.3bn and imports up by 26.7% to $1,285.2bn.
