LONDON (ICIS)--Polish gas monopoly PGNiG is considering moving into production based on gas-to-liquid (GTL) technology, a management source at the company said on Tuesday.

If it decides to go ahead, PGNiG will consider bringing in a partner to share the cost of what could be a multi-billion euro project, he added.

“This may be a way to better utilise and monetise the potential shale gas resources in Poland,” Wood & Company investment bank said in a note on the potential investment.

GTL technology only recently became commercially viable and just a handful of companies, including Sasol and Shell, have the necessary experience and know-how to operate GTL plants, the bank added.
