SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Continental Petrochemicals (Thailand) is on high alert for its 36,000 tonne/year dioctyl phthalate (DOP) plant at Bang Phil in Samut Prakan province, Thailand, where floods have affected more than a thousand factories, a company source said on Thursday.

The company’s employees at the plant received news that flood waters may reach the site on 21 October, the source said.

The producer has been operating its DOP plant at 50% of its capacity since August, the source added.

The demand for DOP in Thailand has been weak because widespread flooding in the country, according to the source.

DOP is used as a plasticiser for polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The demand for PVC has been weak because Thailand’s construction industry has been badly hit by the floods.

Continental Petrochemicals (Thailand) is part of Singapore-based Continental Chemical.
