HOUSTON (ICIS)--US renewable fuels firm Amyris has signed a deal with Brazilian ethanol maker ETH Bioenergia to produce renewable farnesene in Brazil, the US company said on Thursday.
Under the agreement, the joint venture will have access to up to 2m tonnes/year of sugarcane crush capacity at one of ETH's green-field mills in Brazil. Production is scheduled to begin in 2014, Amyris said.
The joint venture will be controlled by ETH and Amyris will have exclusive marketing rights for the product.
Amyris's renewable farnesene is branded Biofene.
The company said it is scaling up Biofene production in Brazil, Europe and the US through other production arrangements.
The deal with ETH represents its sixth production agreement, Amyris said.
