LONDON (ICIS)--LANXESS has agreed a joint-development deal with US-based renewable chemicals company BioAmber to develop succinic acid-based plasticisers, the German chemical producer said on Thursday.

LANXESS said the global market for phthalate-free plasticizers is estimated at €1.3bn ($1.8bn), with annual growth of around 7%.
“BioAmber’s biobased succinic acid is a unique opportunity to develop a new generation of plasticizers combining full regulatory compliance with superior environmental background,” LANXESS’ head of functional chemicals, Jorge Nogueira, said.
LANXESS and BioAmber have worked together for more than two years assessing the performance and opportunities of succinate-based esters in the plasticiser market.
“Our partnership with LANXESS will accelerate penetration of the global plasticizer market and secure a first mover advantage for both companies,” BioAmber CEO Jean-Francois Huc said.
