Brazil’s September fertilizer sales rise 10.9% year on year

SAO PAULO (ICIS)--Brazil's fertilizer sales reached 3.4m tonnes in September, up 10.9% year on year, the Fertilizer Distribution Association (Anda) said on Monday.

Sales grew mainly as a result of higher demand for sugar, coffee, corn, rice, wheat, sugarcane and cotton, the association added.

In the first nine months of 2011, sales grew 22.9% year on year to nearly 20.5m tonnes.

Fertilizer production in September reached 943,365 tonnes, up 9.3% year on year.

Fertilizer imports reached 2m tonnes in September, up 10.3% year on year.

Output in the first nine months of 2011 totalled 7.2m tonnes, up 5% compared with the same period of 2010, Anda said.

Imports totalled 14.9m tonnes in the January-September period, up 39.3% year on year, Anda added.
