BUENOS AIRES (ICIS)--Brazil’s solvent demand is expected to outpace gross domestic product (GDP) growth in 2011, market sources said on Sunday.

The solvent market is expected to grow by around 6%, while GDP growth is likely to be at around 4%, a distributor said on the sidelines of the 31st Latin American Petrochemical Association (APLA) annual meeting in Buenos Aires.

The solvents market is strong for packaging and degreasers, the source said.

Another distributor said that Brazil’s demand for chlorinated solvents is also firm, but the source said growth in that market is more likely to match GDP at 4%.

Chlorinated solvents include methylene chloride, perchloroethylene (perc) and trichloroethylene (TCE).

The 2011 APLA conference ends on Tuesday.
