HOUSTON (ICIS)--US prices for the oxo-alcohol isobutanol declined by 12% from October, while n-butanol and 2-ethylhexanol (2-EH) declined by lesser amounts, according to ICIS pricing on Monday.
Prices effective 1 November for n-butanol, isobutanol and 2-EH retreated from the prior month on dwindling buying interest and lower prices for feedstock propylene.
Isobutanol fell by 12%, assessed by ICIS pricing for November in a range of 108–110 cents/lb DEL (delivered), down from 123–128 cents/lb in October.
N-butanol for November was assessed in a range of 96–98 cents/lb ($1,944–2,161/tonne) DEL, down 2 cents/lb from October.
The November price for 2-EH was assessed at 122–125 cents/lb, down from 130–135 cents/lb last month.
Market prices for oxo-alcohols are anticipated to slide further in the coming weeks as the November contract price of feedstock propylene is expected to sink by as much as 7 cents/lb, traders said.
US oxo-alcohol producers include BASF, Eastman Chemical, Dow Chemical and Oxea.
