SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Jiutai Energy shut down its 1m tonne/year coal-based methanol unit on 5 November for regular maintenance, a company official said late on Monday.

The company will keep the plant shut for 15 days, the official added.

The methanol plant is located at Erdos in Inner Mongolia province, north China, the official said.

The shutdown will cause methanol prices in northwest China to increase, a market player said.

The company settled its price at yuan (CNY) 2,800/tonne ($441/tonne) EXW (ex-works) on Tuesday, up by CNY50/tonne from last Friday, the official added.

($1 = CNY6.35)
