HOUSTON (ICIS)--Worries over the eurozone debt crisis pushed the US Dow Jones Industrial Average down by more than 2% in early trading on Wednesday.

At 9:00 hours Houston time (15:00 GMT), the Dow was down by 277 points to 11,893.18. The Dow Jones US Chemical Index had fallen by 3.79% to 323.31.

Ten-year Italian bond yields surged to above 7%, the highest mark of the euro era. The increase reinforced concerns that the eurozone's sovereign debt crisis is worsening.
