HOUSTON (ICIS)--US acetone exports for September were up by 53% from the same month a year ago, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Thursday.

Exports increased to 31,060 tonnes from 20,277 tonnes in September 2010.

The increase was the result of strong demand from Asia and Mexico through September, according to market sources.

Month on month, exports fell by 26% to 31,060 tonnes from 42,172 tonnes in August, the ITC said.

Top destinations for US acetone exports were China and Mexico.

Major US producers of acetone are Dow Chemical, Georgia Gulf, Shell and INEOS Phenol.
