HOUSTON (ICIS)--US ethyl acetate (etac) exports in September soared by 65% to 3,466 tonnes, compared with 2,105 tonnes in the same month of 2010, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Thursday.
Most of the jump stemmed from etac exports to Turkey, which received 1,044 tonnes in September compared with none in the same month of 2010.
Turkey became the top export destination in September, the first month the Middle Eastern country has received any US etac this year.
The other top etac destinations - including Canada and Latin American countries - increased their collective volumes by 18% to 2,314 tonnes, or 66% of all exports, compared with 1,968 tonnes in the same month of 2010.
Etac is a major ingredient in inks and coatings, particularly in nail polish.
Major US etac producers include Celanese, Eastman Chemical and Solutia, whose material is marketed by Celanese.
