China’s LDK Solar gets approval to build polysilicon cell line

SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China’s LDK Solar, a leading integrated manufacturer of photovoltaic products, plans to build a 600MW/year polysilicon cell line at Xinyu in Jiangxi province, east China, a company source said on Monday.

Jiangxi Development and Reform Commission approved the line in early November, a local government source said.

The line will cost LDK Solar $297m (€214m) and the company has not confirmed when construction will begin, the company source said.

The manufacturer will have a total polysilicon cell capacity of 3.6GW/year when the new line starts operating, the company source added.

LDK Solar has a total polysilicon production capacity of 17,000 tonnes/year at its Mahong and Xiacun polysilicon plants in Xinyu.

The company expects to have a total polysilicon production capacity of 25,000 tonnes/year by the middle of 2012.
