HOUSTON (ICIS)--Praxair plans to build a plant in Uruguay to supply a $1.9bn (€1.4bn) pulp mill with gaseous oxygen, the US-based industrial gases firm said on Wednesday.

Praxair said it expects to start up the plant with a capacity of 126 tonnes/day in early 2013. Praxair will supply the pulp mill under a 15-year deal, it added.

The pulp mill, which is currently under construction at Punta Pereira, is expected to produce 1.3m tonnes/year cellulose pulp, beginning in early 2013.

The mill, a joint venture between forestry companies Arauco of Chile and StoraEnso of Finland, is the largest-ever privately executed investment in Uruguay, Praxair said.
