SHANGHAI (ICIS)--East China Engineering Science and Technology Co (ECEC) plans to build a 100,000 tonne/year methanol-to-propylene (MTP) project in Xinjiang province, a company source said on Thursday.

ECEC signed a design contract with Shihezi Hicui Energy Chemical Co in early November to build the project, the source said.

“The construction may start in the middle of 2012 but it is not confirmed because it’s just under the design process now,” the source said in Mandarin.

The project, which will achieve a propylene capacity of 100,000 tonnes/year when it starts operating, will have a downstream polypropylene (PP) plant as well, the source told ICIS.

ECEC did not disclose the capacity of the PP plant and the financial details of the MTP project.

ECEC is headquartered at Hefei in Anhui province, east China.
