SHANGHAI (ICIS)--Germany’s Evonik Industries has started commercial operations at its polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) plant in Shanghai after completing expansion work for the unit in the fourth quarter, a company source said on Thursday.

The plant’s capacity was doubled to 40,000 tonnes/year from 20,000 tonnes/year and commercial operations started in the middle of November, the source added.

“We are now running the PMMA plant at almost full rate after the expansion, which was started earlier this year,” the source told ICIS.

The plant will continue to supply China and all other Asian markets, the source added.

Evonik Industries is a global manufacturer of PMMA products sold under the Plexiglas trademark in Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia, and under the Acrylite trademark in the Americas. The company supplies a variety of industries, including the automotive and electronics manufacturing sector.
