Japan October cast polypropylene film production falls by 4.7%

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s production of cast polypropylene (PP) film decreased by 4.7% to 13,342 tonnes in October from the corresponding period a year earlier, reflecting lower domestic shipments and exports, official industry statistics showed on Monday.

The country’s domestic shipments totalled 12,046 tonnes in October 2011, down by 9.3% from October 2010, while its exports fell by 3.3% to 382 tonnes, according to the Japan Polypropylene Film Industry Association.

Among the domestic shipments, Japan’s shipments of cast PP film for food packaging declined by 9.7% to 9,770 tonnes year on year, while its shipments for industrial applications fell by 7.4% to 650 tonnes, the data showed.

The country’s production of oriented PP film decreased by 1.6% to 18,906 tonnes in October from the same period a year before, according to the association.

Its domestic shipments of oriented PP film fell by 11% to 17,673 tonnes in October year on year, while its exports of the product rose by 15% to 376 tonnes, the data showed.
