SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s BP Zhuhai plans to shut its 900,000 tonne/year No 2 purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant in Guangdong province early next month for a 35-day turnaround, a source close to the company said on Thursday.
Debottlenecking work will be conducted on the plant to raise its capacity to 1.1m tonnes/year, the source said.
The shutdown is not expected to have a major impact on supply because it is a planned turnaround and demand is weak during the current lull season.
China has added 4.68m tonnes/year of PTA capacity so far this year, taking the country’s total to 20.16m tonnes/year, according to ICIS data.
