SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China’s Shanghai Sinopec Mitsui Chemicals (SSMC) has started to build a phenol/acetone plant at Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park (SCIP), a company source said on Friday.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the plant, which can produce 250,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 150,000 tonnes/year of acetone, was held on 18 November, the source said.
The construction is expected to complete at the end of 2013, the source added.
The Shanghai government approved the construction on 8 October, according to the source.
SSMC did not disclose any financial details about the plant.
The company is a joint venture between China’s Sinopec and Japan’s Mitsui Chemicals.
