HOUSTON (ICIS)--A drop in US chlor-alkali production numbers last month were reflected by low inventories and steady price increases in November, market participants said on Tuesday.
Chlor-alkali production was 78% of capacity in October, down from 83% of capacity in September, the Chlorine Institute said.
October industry chlor-alkali output totalled 897,419 tons (814,139 tonnes) of chlorine and 940,044 tons of caustic soda.
Several market participants said the figures were unsurprising given low inventories and steady price increases in recent weeks by suppliers.
US caustic soda exports were assessed by ICIS at $450-470/dry metric tonne (DMT) (€338-353/tonne) FOB (free on board) US Gulf.
Four weeks ago, caustic soda export prices were assessed at $430-460/tonne.
Major US chlor-alkali producers include Dow Chemical, Formosa Plastics USA, Georgia Gulf, Shintech, Occidental Chemical (OxyChem), Olin and PPG Industries.
