HOUSTON (ICIS)--Third-quarter US styrene production declined year on year, while inventories moved higher compared with the same time a year ago, according to data received by ICIS from the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA) on Wednesday.
Third-quarter styrene production was at 2.3m lb (1,043 tonnes), down from 2.4m lb at the same time in 2010.
Meanwhile, styrene inventories were at 607m lb, up by 40% from 433m lb the third quarter of 2010.
Third-quarter 2011 styrene production and stockpiles were also both higher compared with the previous quarter.
Major US styrene producers include Americas Styrenics, Styrolution, LyondellBasell, Total and Westlake Chemical – all of which contributed production figures included in the NPRA survey.
