HOUSTON (ICIS)--Ecolab has completed its merger deal with water-treatment chemicals firm Nalco, the US firm said on Thursday.

Ecolab said the completion of the deal came after shareholders of both firms overwhelmingly approved the merger and after the receipt of remaining approvals from competition authorities in China.

The deal was first announced in July.

The total value of the deal is $8.3bn (€6.1bn), including Ecolab’s $5.6bn offer for Nalco's equity and $2.7bn in assumed Nalco debt.
