JERSEY CITY, New Jersey (ICIS)--Re-refined base oils can meet the higher quality specifications of the Group II base stock tier, an industry expert from Puralube Holding said.
Speaking at the 7th ICIS Pan-American Base Oils & Lubricants Conference, Christian Hartman, CEO of re-refiner Puralube, said viscosity specifications ranging between 80 vis and 120 vis could be achieved, putting re-refined base oils into the Group II tier.
“Re-refined base oils are going into applications for process and specialty oils, in addition to engine and gear oil uses,” Hartman said.
With growing emphasis on carbon emissions and recycling, Hartman said the re-refining industry was also researching methods to bring re-refined base stock to the specification levels required for Group III stock and recovery of polyalphaolefins (PAOs).
The ICIS conference ends on Friday.
