HOUSTON (ICIS)--Dow Chemical has signed a letter of intent with China's Jilin Connell Group aimed at supplying aniline for US methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) production at Dow’s Freeport complex in Texas, the US-based producer said on Monday.
Dow’s polyurethane (PU) business is a leading producer of MDI, which requires aniline as a feedstock.
Jilin Connell’s chemical subsidiary is the top merchant aniline producer and distributor in China and has announced expansion plans that would position it as the largest in the world, Dow said.
Dow operates the largest single-train crude MDI plant in the world from its Freeport site, the company said.
The letter of intent with Jilin Connell concerns potential opportunities for future technical and commercial collaboration in the industrial production of aniline, Dow said.
Discussions include plant location options such as the possibility of Jilin Connell building a plant at Dow’s Freeport site.
Dow’s Freeport plant has an MDI production capacity of 272,000 tonnes/year, according to ICIS plants and projects.
