Jingmen Petrochemical to start up solvent oil plant in June 2012

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Jingmen Petrochemical, a subsidiary of Sinopec, is planning to start up its 100,000 tonne/year dearomatised solvent oil plant at Jingmen in Hubei province in June 2012, a company source said on Wednesday.

The plant will mainly produce products with a flash point of above 80°C, according to the source.

The company will use its own supply of hydrogenated residue feedstock for the plant, which will enable them to enjoy a cost advantage, the source said.

The plant will be able to produce 5,000-6,000 tonnes/month of output, the source added.

The supply from the new plant is likely to soften the prices of dearomatised solvent oils, particular in the southern regions of the country, where the company will sell most of its output, market sources said.

Some traders from where in eastern and southern China said they welcome the added capacity and more supply will offer them more choices.

“We can better control our buying cost,” a trader based in Guangdong said.
