Chevron Phillips’ Saudi Polymers jv to begin commercial ops in Q1 '12

HOUSTON (ICIS)--Chevron Phillips Chemical’s (CP Chem) Saudi Polymers joint venture plant in Saudi Arabia is expected to begin commercial operations in the first quarter of 2012, the US petrochemicals major said on Wednesday.

Construction of the Saudi Polymers integrated chemicals complex at Al-Jubail has been completed and the facilities are currently undergoing “final commissioning and testing activities“ to ensure safe and reliable operations, CP Chem said. Construction began in January 2008.

Saudi Polymers -  a 65:35 joint venture between Saudi Arabia’s National Petrochemical Company (Petrochem) and CP Chem - includes capacities for 1.165m tonnes/year of ethylene, 445,000 tonnes/year of propylene, 1.1m tonnes/year of polyethylene, 400,000 tonnes/year of polypropylene and 200,000 tonnes/year of polystyrene.

Texas-based CP Chem is an equal joint venture between Chevron and ConocoPhillips.
