China Power Investment, Total starts building Erdos MTO project

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China Power Investment (CPI) and France’s Total Petrochemical has started building a methanol-to-olefins (MTO) project at Erdos in Inner Mongolia, according to a CPI statement on its website late on Wednesday.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the plant was held on 3 December, according to the statement.

The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the construction of the project in November 2010.

The €2bn-3bn ($1.5bn-2.3bn) facility is expected to be operational after 2015 and produce 800,000 tonnes/year of olefins, the statement said.
