HOUSTON (ICIS)--Exports of US acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) in October were down 9% year on year, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.

Exports decreased to 6,025 tonnes from 6,620 tonnes in October 2010.

The most significant decrease was the result of less volume shipped to Mexico and Canada.

Increased exports were sent to Germany, Nigeria, Belgium and Hong Kong.

Imports during October were down 7.9% year on year, according to the ITC data.

Imports decreased to 8,763 tonnes from 9,514 tonnes in October 2010.

The decline was primarily the result of less volume shipped from Mexico, Taiwan and South Korea, which are the countries that shipped the most material to the US in October.

Month on month, imports were down 3.4%.

US producers of ABS include INEOS, Network & Diamond Polymers, SABIC, Styrolution and Styron.
