HOUSTON (ICIS)--US methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) exports for October were down by 55 % from the same month a year ago, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.

Exports decreased to 1,016 tonnes from 2,241 tonnes in October 2010.

Month on month, exports fell by 37% to 1,016 tonnes from 1,603 tonnes in September, the ITC said.

Through October, MDI exports increased by 4% to 15,804 tonnes, compared with 15,139 tonnes in the first 10 months of last year, according to the ITC.

The year-to-date volume increase from 2010 to 2011 was a result of greater volumes being shipped during the first 10 months to Brazil, Korea and Hong Kong.

Top destinations for US MDI from January to October were Brazil (7,153 tonnes), Mexico (3,090 tonnes) and China (2,327 tonnes).

US MDI suppliers are Bayer MaterialScience, Huntsman, BASF and Dow Chemical.
