TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s domestic shipments of foamed polystyrene (PS) sheets in November stood at 8,560 tonnes, an increase of 6.2% from the previous month, industry data showed on Monday.

The increase reflects improved demand for end-products such as food trays and laminated bowls, according to Japan Polystyrene Foamed Sheet Industry Association (JASFA).

Last month’s volume of shipments, however, fell by 3.5% on a year-on-year basis, it said.

Shipments of foamed PS sheets for food trays in November at 3,740 tonnes increased by 15% from October, but down by 3.6% year on year, while shipment for use in laminated bowls at 3,240 tonnes inched up by 4.2% month on month, but slipped by 1.2% year on year, the data showed.

Shipments of foamed PS sheets for general use totaled 1,200 tonnes, down by 9.8% month on month and down 1.6% from the same period last year, according to JASFA.
