Taiwan's Oriental Petrochemical to restart PTA unit on 16-17 Dec

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Oriental Petrochemical plans to restart its 400,000 tonne/year T9 purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant on 16-17 December after an unplanned shutdown, a company source said on Wednesday.

The plant is located at Kuan Yin county in Taiyuan and was shut on 10 December because of a mechanical outage at its air compressor, the source said.

The shutdown is expected to last for seven to eight days, he added.

The company has informed its customers that its December shipments will be delayed or reduced because of the shutdown.

A Zhejiang-based end-user said it has purchased some spot cargoes of Taiwanese origin at $1,095/tonne (€842/tonne) CFR (cost & freight) CMP (China Main Port) to “compensate for the shortage”.  

Asia PTA prices stabilised at $1,092-1,097/tonne CFR CMP on Wednesday, despite softer Chinese PTA futures, according to data from ICIS.
