HOUSTON (ICIS)--Dow Chemical and Japan's Ube will go ahead with their planned joint venture to produce formulated electrolytes for lithium-ion battery cell manufacturers, Dow said on Wednesday.

Dow said its Advanced Electrolyte Technologies (AET) venture with Ube, which was first announced in July, has received all necessary regulatory approvals.

AET plans to build a facility with a capacity of 5,000 tonnes/year of electrolytes at Dow’s site in Midland, Michigan. The plant is expected to start up in late 2012.

AET also has plans to build manufacturing facilities in China and Europe, Dow said.

Financial details were not disclosed.

The 50:50 joint venture will be led by Toshimitsu Takahashi as CEO. Takahashi is also president and CEO of UBE America.
