SABIC CEO Mohamed Al-MadyDUBAI (ICIS)--SABIC will consider investing in a US cracker either with a partner or going at it alone, Mohammed Al-Mady, vice chairman and chief executive of SABIC, said on Thursday.

“We are in the business of petrochemicals,” A-Mady said, adding that SABIC would pursue opportunities in any market where feedstock availability is feasible.

Al-Mady declined to say if SABIC has been approached by other companies seeking a partner for a joint cracker in the US.

“I cannot comment on that,” he said on the sidelines of the sixth annual GPCA (Gulf Petrochemicals & Chemicals Association) conference.

Shale gas was a recurring theme at the event, as delegates debated how the newfound US feedstock advantage could eventually impact Middle East producers.
