SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Sinopec subsidiary Gaoqiao Petrochemical has shut its 150,000 tonne/year Group I base oil unit in Shanghai on 14 December for maintenance, a company source said on Thursday.
The turnaround is expected to last about two months, the source said, adding that the specific timeline for restart has not been decided.
The maintenance will reduce the company's daily output of base oils by 40% or 400 tonnes, the source said.
The company will continue supplying to Sinopec’s lubrication plants and reduce its sales in the spot markets during the maintenance period, the source added.
The output loss is unlikely to have an impact on east China’s Group I base oil market, a domestic trader said.
This is because there is still about 20,000 tonnes of stock in the region, the trader added.
Gaoqiao Petrochemical has a Group I base oil capacity of 400,000 tonnes/year and a Group II capacity of 300,000 tonnes/year.
