LONDON (ICIS)--The EU’s chemical products trade surplus for January to September 2011 fell slightly from the same period last year, while imports and exports showed a year-on-year rise, EU statistics body Eurostat said on Friday.
The Eurostat figures showed that the trade surplus for chemicals in the 27-member EU fell by 0.4% to €73.0bn ($94.8bn) in the first nine months of 2011, down from €73.3bn in the same period last year.
EU chemical exports rose by 7% year on year to €188.2bn, and imports increased by 13% to €115.2bn.
The chemicals trade surplus in the 17-member eurozone for January–September was €81.4bn, up by 4% from €78.1bn in the same period in 2010, as exports grew by 9% year on year to €215.9bn and imports by 12% to €134.5bn.
