Chinese joint venture to start up non-ionic surfactant project

SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Jiangsu Zhongdan, Noble Apex, Wuhan SFH Chemical Industry and Taiwan’s Ho Tung Chemical are planning to start up a non-ionic surfactant joint venture project at Taixing city in Jiangsu province, a company source from Jiangsu Zhongdan said on Monday.

The companies started building the first phase of the project on 28 November, according to the source, who added that the total investment for the project is yuan (CNY) 2bn ($315m).

The project has three phases of construction. The first phase comprises a 80,000 tonne/year fatty alcohol plant and a 120,000 tonne/year fatty alcohol-polyoxyethylene ether plant, to be brought on stream at the end of 2013, according to the source.

The second phase comprises a 120,000 tonne/year fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether sodium sulfate plant, which will be brought on stream at the end of 2014, the source added.

The third phase comprises a 80,000 fatty alcohol plant, a 120,000 tonne/year fatty alcohol-polyoxyethylene ether plant and a 120,000 tonne/year fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether sodium sulfate plant, which will be started up at the end of 2016, the source said.

Upon completion of the project, Taixing city will be China’s largest base for the daily output of raw chemical materials, according to the source.

Non-ionic surfactants, which China imports heavily, are widely used in the manufacture of textiles, paper, food and medicine.
