HOUSTON (ICIS) -- The US chlor-alkali production rate fell slightly to 77% in November, down by one percentage point from October, a trade group said on Monday, in line with usual year-end drop-offs as producers lower inventories.

The Chlorine Instiute's monthly polling of production shows the November chlor-alkali output at 890,785 tons (808,115 tonnes) of chlorine and 940,044 tons of caustic soda.

Demand for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) - one of the major end products for chlorine - was still low.

US caustic soda exports were assesed by ICIS at $445-470/dry metric tonne (DMT) (€343-362/DMT) FOB (fee on board) US Gulf.

Major US chlor-alkali producers include Formosa Plastics USA, Georgia Gulf, Shintech, OxyChem, Dow Chemical, Olin and Westlake.
