HOUSTON (ICIS)--US-based Jacobs has won a contract for work on Honeywell’s expansion of a refrigerants plant at Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the petrochemicals engineering firm said on Tuesday.

Honeywell plans to expand the facility to produce a new blowing agent and propellant, called HFO-1234ze, on a commercial scale, Jacobs said.

Production of HFO-1234ze is expected to begin in late 2013, Jacobs added.

It did not disclose capacity or investment details.

In related news, the European Commission said last week it opened antitrust proceedings to investigate agreements between Honeywell and DuPont for the development of a new refrigerant for air conditioning systems in cars.
