Japan's Maruzen to restart cracker at Chiba on 22 December

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japanese chemical producer Maruzen Petrochemical plans to restart its 520,000 tonne/year naphtha cracker at Chiba on 22 December after a two-week shutdown, a company source said on Wednesday.

Maruzen cracker was taken off line following a fire at Chiba petrochemical complex on 9 December. An aromatics facility and other production lines at the site were shutdown as well.

The producer has already restarted its 115,000 tonne/year ethylene glycol (EG) unit and the benzene, toluene and xylene facilities, according to the source.

“Some of them were restarted last weekend. We’ll restart other facilities one by one,” the source said in Japanese.
