Indorama started reconstructing and debottlenecking the PTA plant after acquiring a 50% share in Polyprima in July this year, the source said.
Polyprima’s PTA plant has been idle for more than four years since October 2007 because of financial problems.
During the debottlenecking, the company raised the capacity at the PTA plant from 465,000 tonnes/year to 500,000 tonnes/year, the source added.
Most of the product from the plant will be sold outside of
Indorama Ventures is planning to expand its polyester capacity by 400,000 tonnes/year, producing a mix of polyester fibre and yarn products, according to the Indorama source.
The construction of the expansion has not started, the source added.
