China ethylene, benzene imports rise in November

SHANGHAI (ICIS)--China’s petrochemical import volumes in November rose for some products and decreased in others, according to customs data released on Thursday.
Ethylene imports in November rose to 121,674 tonnes, while benzene imports increased to 52,209 tonnes, according to the data.
“Most benzene traders ordered import contracts earlier in September and October, due to the lower international prices. Now the cargoes arrived largely in November, that is why the imports increased greatly in November,” said one industry source in the benzene market.
Naphtha imports were at 289,277 tonnes in November, down by 13% year on year but up by 35% month on month.
Butadiene (BD) imports in November rose by 45% year on year to 28,184 tonnes.
Petrochemical products that showed a year-on-year decline in imports in November included polyvinyl chloride (PVC), styrene monomer (SM) and acrylonitrile (ACN).
