SINGAPORE (ICIS)--PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC) restarted its 616,000 tonne/year paraxylene (PX) unit in Map Ta Phut and expects to reach on-spec production over the next few days, a company source said on Wednesday.

The source said PTTGC will lift the force majeure [FM] once the plant completely starts-up and the legal department agrees.

The PX unit was shut on 13 December following a leak at its facility, and a FM on supplies was declared late on 14 December.

PTTGC is a Thai aromatics maker and a key PX supplier to Thailand’s domestic downstream purified terephthalic acid (PTA) makers which includes Indorama Petrochem and Siam Mitsui PTA.

In addition, the Thai aromatics maker exports PX to the Chinese market on a monthly basis via northeast Asia-based traders.
