GUANGZHOU (ICIS)--China's coal bed methane output will reach 30bn cubic metres (cbm) in 2015,the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said over the weekend.

The country will add 1,000bn cbm of coal bed methane to its reserves in 2011-2015, nearly a threefold increase from the volumes seen in the 2006-2010 period, according to a report by the NDRC on 31 December last year.

Around 16bn cbm of the coal bed methane will be extracted from the Qinshui basin in Shanxi province and the Ordos basin that covers Shanxi, Shaanxi and Inner Mongolia, the commission said.

Another 14bn cbm of coal bed methane will be extracted from deep coal wells, it said.

China produced 1.5bn cbm of coal bed methane in 2010, according to the NDRC.
